The IrisAccess System from LG Electronics is a biometric
identification system based on iris recognition. The iris is
the human body's most unique characteristic and is not
influenced by genetic inheritance (DNA). The possibility of
finding two identical irises lies in the order of 1:1078.
By comparison, the current world human population lies in
the range of 1:1010. A further advantage is the
fact that the structure of the iris is determined by the
eighth month of pregnancy and remains unchanged until death.
Identification is carried out by a non-intrusive quick
look (1 - 2 seconds) into the lens of an integrated camera
in the optical unit. The decisive parameter is the structure,
not the color of the iris. Eyeglasses and contact lenses
have no influence on the identification process nor do
classical eye diseases, such as cataracts, glaucoma, etc.
An integrated proximity sensor automatically initiates
the system on approach. System operation is made very easy
by the use of automated speech guidance. Due to the camera
technology employed, the application is completely
non-hazardous to health. Many applications in the security
and high-security fields can be implemented with the aid of
an IrisAccess System. Moreover, a large range of
applications can be addressed through the combination with
other state-of-the-art sensor techniques.
The system is network capable, supports standard SQL
database systems and can be customized or integrated into
existing structures through software engineering. Loss,
theft or failure to remember access cards, transponders, PIN
codes or passwords belong to the past. "Borrowing" the
access rights of another is no longer possible.
Characteristics of Iris Recognition
• 244 Degrees of Freedom
• Automatic Start
• Autofocus and Assessment
• Audio Interface
• Non-intrusive illumination
• Support or SQL Database Systems
• Identification in 1 Second
• 512 Byte IrisCode
• No problem with Glasses or Contactlenses
• Exhaustive Search Identification (one-of-many)
• Optional Verification Mode
• Integration with existing Access Control Systems possible
Harmless
There is no harm in exposing your iris to the optical units
while the video picture is being taken. Capturing the iris
image is just like taking a picture. The level of radiance
from 2 IR LEDs in the optical units meets the US and the
European eye safety standard.
Convenient Operation
Only your iris is required for registration and recognition.
The identification process can be performed accurately,
regardless of wearing eyeglasses, sunglasses, soft contact
lenses or having sore eyes.
Non-Contact
The iris image can be fully captured within a comfortable
distance of 3”-10” from the optical unit, which does not
require any bodily contact.
Accuracy
The fundamental operation of a biometric system is the
comparison of a captured image against pre-memorized data.
The False Match Rate measures the accuracy of the matching
process. The False Match Rate of an iris recognition system
is nearly 0%.
Expense Curtailment
Once the system is installed, there are no additional
expenses for registration. A single ICU3000 can control up
to four ROU3000s installed adjacent to four doors.
Strengthening Current Security
By integrating an additional IrisAccess3000 into the
existing Access Control System, disadvantages existing in
the current system can be compensated for, as well as,
higher security levels can be achieved within security zones
with minimal effort.
Scalability
The IrisAccess 3000 can handle databases with multi-million
entries without negatively impacting the accuracy of the
System.
Easy Registration
After installing the enrollment software on the Client PC,
registration can be completed within 1-2 minutes and just a
few mouse clicks.
Speedy Identification
Identification can be performed within just 1 second.
IrisAccess3000 Components
EOU3000
The EOU3000 is placed on a desk or table adjacent to the
Client PC. The EOU3000 contains all the elements necessary
to initiate the enrollment process, illuminate the iris and
aquire an iris image. Usage is made easy through voice
guidance and optical indicators.
ROU3000
The ROU3000 is installed adjacent to the door being
controlled. The ROU3000 is composed of 2 parts, an optical
imager with the front enclosure and the rear enclosure.
After the rear enclosure is mounted on or recessed into the
wall adjacent to the controlled portal, the optical imager
with the front enclosure is mounted within the rear
enclosure. The ROU3000 contains all the elements necessary
for iris image acquisition. Usage is made easy through voice
guidance and optical indicators informing the user of
identification or dismissal.
ICU3000
The ICU3000 is installed on the wall inside the protected
area in order to discourage tampering with the computer. The
ICU3000 generates an IrisCode based on the iris image input
from the ROU3000 and compares it with the pre-memorized iris
records. If an IrisCode match is found, the ICU3000
generates a signal to open the door. Basically, the ICU3000
can control the access of two doors through installing one
Frame Grabber Board (FGB) and one Door Interface Board (DIB).
By installing an additional FGB and DIB, the ICU3000 can
control up to four ROU3000s, namely the access of four doors.
FGB3000
The Frame Grabber Board FGB3000 is installed in the Client
PC and in the ICU3000. This card records the video images of
the iris and pre-codes these images for generating the
IrisCode.
DIB3000
The Door Interface Board is installed in the ICU3000. It
contains connections to control the camera's ROU3000, as
well as, various in/outputs necessary to control the doors
or communicate with other systems. In Addition, a connection
to a Wiegand card reader (for verification mode) is possible.
Server/Client PC
The Server PC can serve as Super Server, Server, Enrollment
Station, Monitoring Station or Management Station. These
functionalities can be performed both from one PC or various
PCs.
• The Super Server transfers database records from one
Server to the other upon request.
• The Server manages Management Stations and ICUs.
• The Enrollment Station performs the iris registration
with the EOU3000.
• The Monitoring Station monitors the status of ICU, ROU,
EOU and doors being controlled.
• The Management Station not only maintains the old and
new database of users, but also allows downloading of
necessary data to the ICU3000.
